Banco Santander and Orange are trialling a contactless mobile payments service that works with both Visa and MasterCard accounts.
The multi-brand system - a Spanish first - means that Santander customers will be able to make payments by tapping their handsets linked to Visa or MasterCard cards at either Paywave of PayPass-enabled terminals.
The service is being tested at the bank's Madrid campus and shops at Boadilla del Monte with BlackBerry handsets and Ingencio iCT250 point-of-sale terminals.
Participants in the trial - which Oberthur Technologies is also supporting - can manage their passwords and access their accounts through a link to Santander mobile banking.
