Visa has formed an alliance with Shopkick, the US developer of a mobile geo-location-based app, to provide users with reward deals when they make payments.
Launched last year, the free Shopkick Android and iPhone apps provide users with reward points, called kicks, when they walk into participating retailers such as Best Buy and Target.
The points can then be redeemed in the shape of store and iTunes gift cards, restaurant vouchers and Facebook Credits.
The Visa partnership lets users link debit and credit cards to the app, meaning that they can collect points at the checkout as well. American Eagle Outfitters, Arden B., Old Navy, Toys"R"Us, and Wet Sea have all signed up to the new programme, dubbed Buy & Collect.
Cyriac Roeding, co-founder and CEO, Shopkick. "Shoppers get more rewards, and our retail partners get more shoppers and purchases - all made possible through the Visa network - it equals a win-win-win."
Leigh Amaro, senior business leader, information products, Visa, adds: "Visa's ability to analyse transactions in real-time provides retailers a new way to reach enrolled customers while they are shopping and to measure the results of their marketing efforts - so they can deliver the right offer to the right consumer at the right time."
