PayPal has hired former Visa executive Rupert Keeley to run its business in Asia pacific.
A former Standard Chartered banker, Keeley quit Visa in April last year after an eleven-year stint which saw him rise to the position of president, Asia Pacific, Central Europe, Middle East, Africa. Prior to this he had spent eight years as regional president for Visa's Asia Pacific business.
Since leaving Visa, Keeley has taken up a variety of non-executive directorships, including consultancy and advisory positions at Monitise and PayPal.
Announcing the appointment, PayPal president Scott Thompson says the company's Asia Pacific business is growing faster than any other in the world, fuelled by cross-border trade out of China and fast growing e-commerce markets in Australia and Japan.
Says Thompson: "With 30 years of experience in the payments space, Rupert knows the industry inside and out and has built deep, trusting relationships across the region. Rupert will drive our aggressive regional growth strategy, attract and develop great talent for our company, and enhance our relationships with key customers and partners across the region."
