The Bats acquisition is still pending regulatory approval and it is expected that O'Keefe will leave after a transition period following the transaction close.

News of O'Keefe's departure comes less than a week after Chi-X Europe confirmed that chief executive Alasdair Haynes will also move on once the takeover is completed. Haynes' place at the helm will be taken by Bats Europe chief Mark Hemsley.

The latest reshuffle follows a spate of executive restructuring last year, which saw the removal of many of the company's original incumbents, including CEO Peter Randall, COO Hiranda Misra and chairman Tony Mackay.
