Robin Paine has resigned as chief technology officer (CTO) at the London Stock Exchange (LSE) and will leave next month.

His exit comes after a reshuffle at the bourse earlier this year which saw a dedicated chief information officer, Antoine Shagoury, appointed to oversee all technology operations.

Previously, David Lester had acted as CIO but also held other responsibilities. He has since taken on the integration of Turquoise with the Baikal dark pool.

Another technology man, Tony Weeresinghe, has also moved in following the LSE's £18 million acquisition of vendor MillenniumIT, where he was CEO. The bourse is currently migrating to MillenniumIT's Linux trading platform from its current Microsoft-based TradElect system.

Paine was heavily involved in the initial roll out of TradElect, which cost around £40 million but suffered several glitches and soon fell behind upstart rival platforms in the speed stakes, offering trading at a sluggish 3.7 milliseconds.
