The WAG card has an upper spending limit of £30,000 compared to the usual £5000 limit applied to Average Joes carrying the basic Travelex Cash Passport.

In Germany 2006 the British WAG contingent ran up a hotel bill of more than $512,000 and shortly after arriving in the small spa town of Baden Baden spent nearly £500,000 on luxury extras including beauty treatments, restaurant dining, clothes, make-up, laundry and alcohol. Six of the gang apparently spent £57,000 during a one-hour weekend shopping trip.

Ana Ansell, Travelex, comments: "In creating this new card we needed to offer the same benefits of a traditional prepaid card - security, cost control and ease of use - only we're dealing with a different kind of client that has a slightly bigger budget."

A short survey has been posted on the Rands for Fans website set up by Travelex for anyone who may like to try their luck and see if they are WAG enough. Designed to distinguish WAGS from WAGabees, the survey includes questions about mansions and handbags.
