The UK-based m-payments outfit says the app will soon be available as a free download from the 'Android Market' and will be compatible with all Android devices.

Neil Sentance, vice president wireless business development at Monitise, says: "Android is going to be big and we will look to capitalise on its excellent customer experience capabilities, such as social networking.

"Soon, when Android owners are chatting to a friend on Facebook, for example, they might send them, from their mobile, a tenner they owe after a night out."

Monitise's full range of account management, payment and commerce services will be available on the new Android app, including bank account balance enquiries, mini statements, transfers between accounts and bill payments.

The app will be powered by Monitise's Mobile Money Manager platform, which has been re-engineered to provide an improved customer experience including intuitive navigation and faster response times.

In December, Monitise reported two million transactions per month from the 1.3 million registered users of the platform.
