The Smart Lumiere card - available in dual contactless-EMV or pure contactless configuration - has a translucent plastic core, antenna and "illuminating light apparatus".

Oberthur says that by providing customers with a visual sign that their contactless payment transaction has taken place, the card can help banks improve trust in the technology.

The vendor also hopes to attract issuers by letting them customise the colour and sequence of the light the cards emit as a way to make their offering stand out.

Frederic Chevreton, GM, payment product line, card systems, Oberthur, says: "Smart Lumiere provides both issuers and their cardholders with an innovative payment device and a strong message to encourage adoption of contactless payment.

That will really help defend against attacks won't it, because obviously, during the (contactless) attack, one will notice an LED flickering in a wallet or purse when minding one's own business!!

To follow soon, I shall set up a blog to debunk much of this nonsense - working title 'Special subject, the bleedin' obvious' ...
