Credit Suisse has appointed Manny Santayana as head of sales at its advanced execution services (AES) unit, replacing industry veteran Richard Balarkas who announced a surprise move to Instinet Europe last month.
Santayana has been head of AES Sales for the Americas region since the launch of the group in 2002.
In his new role, Santayana will focus on leading the AES sales initiatives across Asia, Europe, Middle East and the Americas.
Based in New York, Santayana will report to Steve Garnett, MD and head of Credit Suisse's alternative execution product group.
Santayana replaces Balarkas who, in a surprise move, announced he was quitting the Swiss bank to join Instinet Europe.
Balarkas is considered a pioneer in the electronic and algorithmic trading space and formerly ran the e-trading operations at Barclays de Zoete Wedd (BZW), which was acquired by Credit Suisse in 1997.
Prior to BZW, Balarkas was involved in developing the London Stock Exchange's first automated trading system and led the exchange's development team from 1986 until 1992.
