Bursa Malaysia is in talks with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange over potential collaboration, including an equity holding, the Kuala Lumpur-based bourse has confirmed.
The Exchange issued a statement Sunday about its discussions with the CME.
"Bursa Malaysia is continuously exploring potential collaboration with strategic business partners to assist the growth of its different businesses. Such business partnerships may involve equity holding, depending on how the relationship develops in the future. In this respect, we wish to clarify that Bursa Malaysia and CME are in discussions on potential collaboration by the exchanges."
Bursa Malaysia emphasised that the discussions are still at preliminary stage, and no terms have been agreed upon by both parties.
Trading in Bursa shares was suspended early this morning to give the markets time to assimilate the news.
