Industrial Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has implemented a smart card issuing and management platform from Minneapolis-based vendor Datacard to support its migration to EMV standards.
The vendor says its Affina data preparation software will enable the bank to introduce smart cards into a pre-existing production environment for pilot and roll out programmes.
The system accepts magnetic stripe data from a host system and convert it to encrypted smart card data for personalisation. The software will generate keys needed to protect data and allow standard risk parameters.
Zhihong Xu, GM of bank cards at ICBC, says the move to EMV "is essential to cardholders because large varieties of information can be securely stored and updated instantly on smart cards".
