In its 2003 report, the Giovannini Group identified 15 barriers to efficient EU cross-border clearing and settlement. The document has since become a blueprint for progress on improving Europe's fragmented settlement infrastructure.

At Finexpo - Finextra's annual capital markets conference and exhibition taking place at Cabot Hall, Canary Wharf on Thursday 26 January - Giovannini will chair a panel discussion featuring leading industry experts on the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID).

Panellists will offer their insights into changing business processes, legal interpretation, and technology solutions relating to MiFID compliance.

The SunGard-organised session will cap a full day of debate at Finexpo 2006, which features a quality line-up of high-level industry speakers and a sold-out exhibition floor representing the complete spectrum of front-to-back office solutions suppliers.

During the day Finexpo-goers will hear presentations from – among others - DrKW’s Bob Fuller on MiFID, Kevin Bourne of HSBC on cross-asset trading, Steve Kirk of LCH.Clearnet on the 7 July bomb blasts, Guy Whittle and Wendy Morgan of the LSE on algorithmic trading, Barry Childe of Royal Bank of Scotland on Grid implementation, and Stephen Denby of the Bank of England on the Tripartite authority business continuity benchmarking exercises.

While the exhbition space is sold out, it's not too late to register for the event. Attendance is free to financial institutions and registration is quick and easy via our dedicated Web portal www.finexpo.com.
