Spanish savings bank Caixa Catalunya has contracted with technology consultancy Accenture for the implementation of a Basel II application developed by European software firm SAP.
Accenture says it will implement the Basel II application from the SAP for Banking package at Caixa Catalunya, Spain's third-largest savings bank.
The system supports regulatory compliance by providing integrated information support for all finance and risk-related business processes. SAP says the application also supports the need for banks to meet Basel II requirements for credit-risk calculations of risk-weighted assets.
Thomas Balgheim, SVP, financial services, SAP, says: "The Basel II offering helps banks prepare their Basel risk model by providing an integrated application architecture view into business processes, enabling a strategic platform for ongoing compliance."
Together Accenture and SAP have implemented Basel II technology at banks around the world, including Absa in South Africa, Bank of Ireland, Italy's BPU Banca, FinanzIT and HSH Nordbank in Germany and Nordea in Norway.
The two firms formed a financial services pact back in September 2003 to develop and deliver IT and outsourcing systems for banks and insurance companies worldwide.
