CA says the bank installed its eTrust PestPatrol Anti-Spyware after experiencing a 20% spike in help desk calls last year due to a growing number of anomalies and malfunctions on machines, which was found to be caused by a deluge of spyware.

Currently used on 1500 workstations, the product will ultimately be installed on 7000 desktops across the bank's Italian and foreign branches.

The system automatically locates and enables the removal of a full range of non-viral threats such as spyware and adware, generates real-time alerts and logs all events to help administrators identify spyware entry points. CA says the product is also able to identify potential infections based on a general threat profile, even when a given spyware variant had not been incorporated into a database of known threats.

Antonino Messana, systems and technology director of information systems at Banca Fideuram, says: "CA's eTrust PestPatrol Anti-Spyware enabled us to quickly and easily restore our environment to normalcy despite the fact that we had little internal expertise on spyware and spyware removal."
