Cathay United Bank and E.Sun Bank are to issue a combined contact and contactless card combining conventional payment card functionality with an e-ticket for mass transit in Southern Taiwan.

The Kaohsiung City Government (KCG) transportation project will mark the first commercial application of MasterCard's OneSmart PayPass Chip Combi Card, branded as the TaiwanMoney Card.

Scheduled for roll out in September 2005, the TaiwanMoney Card combines MasterCard credit, debit, Mondex stored value features, access to the Cirrus ATM network and the MasterCard PayPass contactless functionalities for electronic transportation payments.

The Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government (KCG), on behalf of seven cities in Southern Taiwan, is the official project owner. Acer will be the systems integrator, device provider and project manager, while China Engineering Consultants, Inc. (CECI) will be in charge of programming the electronic transportation terminals.
