San Francisco-based Providian Financial has launched a wireless account access service using technology developed by Aether Systems in partnership with AlterEgo Networks.

The service is compatible with Internet-enabled wireless devices, such as mobile phones and Palm handhelds, providing account access in-your-pocket, says the company.

Providian anticipates developing additional services and features in the future, so that customer may track transactions, pay their bills and perform other account management functions while on the move.

The service will be rolled out to customers who carry the company's Aria Visa card as part of a pilot programme.
