The deal is an extension of an existing contract, originally signed in December 2001, which covered the maintenance of more than 270,000 of Barclays assets across the bank's estate.

Under the new contract, Getronics will continue to provide maintenance and support for 100,000 IT assets at Barclay's head office and across the bank's branch locations in the UK.

Barclays contracted with EDS for managed desktop services across the remainder of the estate in June last year. A bank spokesman says Getronics continues to service these assets under contract to EDS.
