Northern Trust blocks 15.6 million spam e-mails with Sprint service

Chicago-based custodian company Northern Trust has implemented technology from US telecommunications firm Sprint that has blocked 15.6 million spam e-mails in three months.

Northern Trust has deployed Sprint's Email Protection Services to block spam and prevent viruses from entering its network.

The network-based service requires no hardware or software and works with any standard messaging architecture. The service includes virus protection, spam filtering, disaster recovery, content and policy screening and 24x7 online reporting.

Tim Theriault, president of Northern Trust's worldwide operations and technology business unit, says the service was fast and easy to implement and took a significant burden off of the firm's systems: "It is like having your junk mail sorted away at the post office - you don't have to see it or spend time dealing with it."
