Baltimore sells Japanese stake to Betrusted

Fallen dotcom star Baltimore Technologies has sold its residual stake in Baltimore Technologies Japan to US digital security outfit Betrusted for £2.5 million in cash.

The disposal of the Japanese business follows last year's sale of SelectAccess to HP and the subsequent acquisitions of Baltimore's core PKI business, OmniRoot and Managed Services by Betrusted.

The Japanese business was established as a result of the acquisition by Baltimore of a majority shareholding in its privately held Japanese distributor, NSJ Corporation, in March 2000.

Baltimore's remaining assets consist primarily of cash, residual hardware and software support businesses and a range of property interests. The management says it is currently reviewing a number of strategic options, principally reinvesting the cash by acquiring another business, or returning cash to shareholders, or a combination of both.
