The UK bank, which set up a pilot programme in Bangalore last year, already employs 100 people in India to deal with card collection processing. The FT says that Lloyds plans to expand that operation as well as set up another centre in Hyderabad.

It quotes from an internal memo to employees outlining the plans and promising no compulsory redundancies in the UK: "Reductions in staff numbers will be achieved through natural wastage, reductions in temporary and agency staff, by redeploying people and, where appropriate, by offering voluntary redundancies."
