VeriFone Inc., the world's leading provider of payment solutions, today announced that the SC 5000 PINpad is to be launched in Holland, following full certification by Interpay, the Dutch banking regulatory body.
VeriFone International Partner (VIP) CCV Holland B.V., which represents VeriFone in the Dutch, Belgian and Swiss markets, will help VeriFone customers in Holland upgrade to the latest generation smart card PINpad, which has been deployed in multiple countries since its launch in 2002.
CCV, which has 60 per cent share in the Dutch market, worked closely with VeriFone during the eight month certification project, which involved a comprehensive audit of security requirements, including product design, engineering, and the overseas manufacturing process. The award of the Interpay certification for the SC 5000 follows its success in the ep2 pilot, the joint project by acquirers to implement the EMV payment standard in Switzerland. In Belgium, full Banksys certification has also been awarded, and both the Dutch and Belgian rollouts began in January. The SC 5000 has EMV Level 1 and Level 2 Type Approval, meeting the latest EMVCo technical specifications, and is a Visa PED approved device.
Ton van der Bruggen's Managing Director for CCV Holland B. V. commented, "This achievement of full Interpay certification now makes the highest performance PINpad in the industry available to the Dutch market. Having satisfied one of the most stringent security requirements in Europe, the SC 5000 will undoubtedly become the multi-application platform for retailers in Holland."
With its fast processing power for security and EMV functions, the SC 5000 has become the best-of-breed device to support the roll out of EMV-based value-added applications internationally.
Commenting on today's announcement, Nigel Bidmead, EMEA Managing Director for VeriFone said, "Holland, Belgium and Switzerland are some of the highest security countries in terms of certification levels and, now with full Interpay certification for the Dutch market, the SC 5000 has again proved its robustness in terms of security and design."
The SC 5000 PINpad provides the easiest way to upgrade existing terminals or electronic cash registers to support EMV requirements, and is the only peripheral device chosen as part of the Visa Smart Breakthrough Acceptance Device program designed to accelerate EMV throughout the world. The SC 5000 is protected by a comprehensive array of hardware and software-based security features and adheres to Triple DES (3DES) encryption standards being adopted by the payment industry to raise the level of fraud protection for PIN-based debit transactions.
