Matthew O'Neill is group head of distributed systems for HSBC Global IT Operations. He spoke to Finextra about the governance structure the bank has put in place to oversee its use of open source software, its decision to standardise on a single Linux distribution and recently signing up to the Microsoft-Novell agreement aimed at improving operating system interoperability.
