Rebuilding Trust in Banking

A Finextra dinner club event in association with IBM

This exclusive dinner at the prestigious Walbrook Club in the heart of the City of London will feature presentations on how banks can rebuild trust with their customers from Joe Garner, Chair, Financial Services Practitioners Panel (FSPP) (and former Head of UK Retail Bank and Deputy Chief Executive of HSBC Bank PLC) and Ian Fraser, Financial Journalist and Broadcaster (FT, Economist, BBC).

The whole concept of global banking is built on trust.  Yet, over the past few years, the public has been treated to a variety of banking scandals - from bank account fees, to mis-sold ‘protection insurance’, to Libor manipulation – all giving the impression that banks are not working to manage our money effectively.

How can banks change this perception and change the practices and processes inherent in the banking system that have led to a fundamental loss of the public’s trust?

The topics for the evening will cover:

  • Is ring-fencing or a separation of banking services the way forward?
  • How do banks view additional retail channels such as mobile and online – does any bank see them as a way to improve their customers’ financial lives?
  • Do increasing regulatory requirements help or hinder banks’ abilities to regain trust?
  • Will banks lose their relationships with the public to disruptive payment providers who offer, on the surface, greater levels of trust?
  • Why is rebuilding trust about more than just improving service?
  • How can banks empower their own staff to improve levels of trust within the community?
  • Is the API banking model the way forward – or should banks re-establish the ‘friendly neighbourhood’ bank manager?

Places at the dinner are reserved for executive level professionals and senior managers at banks and regulated financial institutions.  Attendees are individually vetted to ensure a high level of networking opportunities.

Register now and join us for what we are sure will be an entertaining and educational evening of networking and discussion in the company of your peers.
