12:15-13:00   Panel - Creating the high-performance bank

Recent market volatility has put incredible stresses on the number-crunching IT architecture used by banks to model their risk factors and assess their exposures. As regulators take a closer look at capital allocation and collateral management, demand for real-time, up-to-the-minute information on outstanding positions across the bank is at a premium. This session will look at the use of the latest class of service oriented architecture and associated technologies by banks looking to scale out and re-architect their enterprise risk platforms for more turbulent times.

Panel - The evolution of financial markets clearing and settlement in Europe

The Giovannini process and European Code of Conduct have in theory opened up competition for post-trade services in Europe, but what barriers remain? On this panel, representatives of leading clearing firms will debate the impact of recent M&A activity, more Brussels-led regulation and infrastructure on the horizon, and the pros and cons of an integrated vs. independent clearing model.

Moderator:      Gary Wright, CEO, B.I.S.S. Research.

Participants:

Marco Strimer, CEO, SIX x-clear

Simon Wheatley, director of regulatory liaison, LCH Clearnet

Ilse Peeters, director of public affairs, Euroclear

Manfred Skalitzky, principal expert,  T2S programme at the European Central Bank

John Tanner, head of equity post-trade service development, London Stock Exchange

14:45-15:30    Panel - Dealing with OTC

Banks are stepping up efforts to cut the number of their outstanding over-the-counter trades to reduce counterparty risks in the wake of Lehman Brothers' collapse. Meanwhile, regulatory bodies are pushing the industry to create better, more centralised ways to manage the risk created by OTC products. This session will look at individual bank efforts to net out and compress their OTC exposures and ask what lessons can be learned from previous industry collaboration efforts in the exchange-traded markets?

Moderator: Gary Wright, CEO, B.I.S.S. Research

Participants:

Bill Blythe, UK Sales Director, SmartStream

Robert Stowsky - director, financial services - Progress Software Corporation
