I highlighted Confirmation of Payee and Enhanced Remittance Data as two among Five Ways to Stimulate Electronic Payments back in 2013. (For some inexplicable reason, some of my posts, including this one, have suddenly become invisible.) Eight years later, we haven't seen much progress on either initiative. Like SCA and ISO20022, I wonder if CoP and ERD have also become fall guys of the pandemic outbreak.

When the Cashier gave personalized service to your Spencer, banks probably knew already that people with middle initials are more creditworthy than people with only first name and last name.
For at least the last 10 years or so, banks have been using satellites to collect data on (a) supermarket parking lot occupancy rates to predict retailers' earnings (b) crop cover to predict farmers' agricultural income. Cardlytics processes credit card transaction data of over 2000 banks to make NBOs / Targeted Offers.
Long story short, banks have been using data for a fairly long time. Finsurgents who claim otherwise probably have a vested interest in spreading the story that fintechs are using data to disrupt banks.

Nice post. In survey after survey in USA, UK, etc., a majority of BNPL consumers attribute their preference for BNPL to "free credit" aka avoidance of interest and fees associated with credit card (which they do have). Yet, they let BNPL repayments to be drawn automatically from their credit card (where the issuer allows it). I find this counterintuitive since they will eventually fork out interest and fees when the BNPL installment gets transferred to their credit card. In my blog post BNPL Ain't Killing Banks. It's Making Them Rich, I alluded to this as a "quirk of consumer behavior".
I see that credit card is one of the modes of BNPL repayment even in Spain. Any idea why BNPL consumers exhibit this contradictory behavior?

Last June, I posited that they will use the pandemic as the fall guy to shut down SCA, among other initiatives like SWIFT ISO 20022, etc. One year later, I seem to be on the right track. Can't say I'm disappointed. Going by the experience with 2FA in India, UK / EU will be doing its economy a good deed by canning SCA.

To accept credit card payment, a Merchant needs a Merchant Account from an Acquirer Bank. If Merchant uses Square, she does not need a Merchant Account of her own, she can ride off off Square's master Merchant Account. Keen to know which of the following is the case with mPOS:
(A) Merchant needs separate Merchant Account and has to get it directly from Acquirer Bank
(B) Merchant needs separate Merchant Account but mPOS vendor gets it for the Merchant from Acquirer Bank
(C) Merchant does not need Merchant Account - similar to Square.
