Amazon already offers an A2A payment method in India: Amazon Pay operating over UPI / IMPS rails. Since the #ZeroMDR reg came into effect from 1 Jan 2020, UPI payments attract zero processing costs.
For ages, retailers have incurred lower processing cost for debit card versus credit card but I still haven't come across a single retailer who passes that lower cost on to consumers.
Of course, Amazon is not like other retailers. On second thoughts, since it does not give any discount or additional loyalty points on A2A compared to credit card payment, maybe Amazon is not so unlike other retailers.

The BNPL offer from my credit card issuer, a Top 5 UK Bank, has processing fees and interest, like any other credit product. When the Klarnas and Affirms and AfterPays offer free credit, I don't know how this bank will persuade its customers to incur the costs of processing fees and interest.
Looks like banks entering BNPL are equally unclear about what they're getting into:)
In short, seller and buyer are both unclear about what they're signing up for. Sounds like a match made in Heaven. What can go wrong, huh?

TY @AFinextraMember.
Banks offer to convert largish charges to installments. I also know a couple of nonbank BNPLs (Slice, Uni), who offer credit card-based BNPL services. I never suspected that other BNPL providers also effectively operated over an underlying credit card and snuck in a credit card without the explicit consent of BNPL customers.
This should be a major PSA for BNPL users.

LOL as though customers fully understand credit card, mortgage, overdraft, ULIP and other garden-variety financial products.
(I'll not even talk about MBS, CDO, CDS and other structured financial products that can only be bought by accredited investors.)

I can receive a DM on Twitter only when I follow somebody. Unlike incoming emails, SMSs and telephone calls, I already have a control over who can DM me. Unless I'm missing something, I don't get the need for regulation on this.

While retailers always offered credit, banks introduced credit card and revolutionized the market by letting retailers outsource the credit issuance and collection functions. Likewise, while retailers always offered installment-based purchases for white goods and other consumer products, it's expected that the new breed of BNPLs will revolutionize the space by providing installments as an outsourced service and spreading installments to a much wider market than large ticket size white goods. I know a runner service in India that offers BNPL for delivery charge of INR 30 ($0.25). In business payments, as you point out, BNPL is the default for buyers. When it comes to sellers, I'm not sure how different SNPN is from outsourced services like Factoring and Receivables Finance that have been offered by FIs for a long time. The now bankrupt Greensill Capital was hailed as innovative SNPN provider not for using AI / ML or any other shiny new technology but for making a small switch in business practice - from Receivables Finance to Prospective Receivables Finance - which resulted in a manifold increase in SNPN volumes. Of course, the rest is history.

Per BRC calls for abolition of interchange fees as more consumers pay with plastic, UK retail payments comprises 80% Credit Card + Debit Card and 20% Cash.
How exactly has the "reliance on traditional card companies" decreased?

Historically, small banks in USA and Germany have been running banking apps off of consolidated, offpremise, financial services industry ASPs for decades. Don't see what's "nascent" about industry cloud for finserv.
