Why not pay on your phone? To me the answer is four fold:
1. Somethings may not have scanned and the cashier may have to do it,
2. This is entirely under Sainsbury's control they don't have to involve anyone else to integrate payments,
while
3. They test consumer response. If they don't get consumer traction they haven't wasted money integrating payments for something consumers don't want.
And
4. To stop people walking out the store with a trolly full of booze that they haven't actually paid for.

Am I missing something here? The USA has just started on a migration to EMV so the Square Reader will soon be a thing of the past regardless of how high tech the thing is it's plugged into.

Am I missing something here. The US is moving to EMV so face to face fraud in the US will migrate to Square Retailers - why would you buy into that?

Darren, you have to be careful iPay is an existing brand owned by Planet Payment - proof that Apple don't own everything "i".

Is it just me? To improve security over simple PAN Key entry the card schemes added in the Card Security code on the back; because that wasn't the same value as the code in the magnetic stripe, then onwards to VbV and MasterCard secure code. This looks like a step back to me and processors should be saying to these guys when they say "will you process these transactions" - No. Ok let's see list of skimmed card numbers, copy of Photoshop, OCR Font - how many cards did you want?

Steve, I think you are missing something here. You can have both solutions. The issuer can personalise the card's CVM List to be On-Line PIN as the first choice, Off-Line PIN as the second and then Signature and probably No CVM as the last to cover some unattended devices. In this way if the card is presented in a country that supports On-Line PIN or in an ATM the On-Line PIN will be used. If the country doesn't support On-Line PIN then the card and terminal will agree to use Off-Line PIN.

John, Ever since people began shouting about mobile payments and m-commerce I have been waiting for someone to satisfactorily explain what they were. Surely if your mobile phone contains a link to one or more existing payment cards (credit or debit) then tapping your phone is just a "contactless" payment. And if you buy something from a website using the browser on your phone and a payment card or PayPal then that's e-commerce. So what does the "M" stand for - Oh I know Marketing!

Visa invests in Square - WHY? Surley Visa should be looking to plug the big security hole that is the US market not supporting it?
