Excellent news!

It's great to see another milestone reached in the development of interoperability - Alan J. (virt-x program director, 2002-3)

Reading this news item alongside the Commission's recent consultation document, there seems to be quite some consensus about the priorities - to my mind, this is very helpful to us all, as we draw up our plans and budgets for MiFID 2 in 2011-12... (Alan J. - Subject Group chair, MiFID Forum)

OK, it's easy to be cynical - but if all these groups can agree consistent data definitions, and maintain these in the ISO 20022 repository, then it genuinely solves a lot of problems. The varying formats and protocols are secondary to the meaning of the underlying data, as Mike Bennett's excellent work for the EDM Council is demonstrating.

At first sight, and before having looked at the detail, these proposals do seem to cover the right topics - even including some that the MiFID Joint Working Group considered back in 2005-07, such as Approved Publication Arrangements (APAs) for post-trade transparency. 

ISITC Europe has its Quarterly Meeting in London on Monday 26 April - this should be an opportunity to debate these CESR proposals, in advance of the Public Hearing in Paris on Monday 17 May.
