The interaction between banks and need to share common data is driving a number of the api discussions driven in the uk alot by open data initiative and 7 day switching .... However, fintechs and other external companies have been able to find much more value through new uses or insights from data that have been overlooked by banks . i particularly liked the one from bbva credit card visualization https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J3T3UjHbrE . This lead them to open up fintechs for other ideas on how to get new insights or value from data beyond already being done in the bank

Good article. Finding the real use cases for use of big data is the heart of the way forward......analysing data , finding insights and passing that back to clients in meaningful ,relevant ways is key to better personal financial management .It also offers opportunity to see the bank as a useful partner offering high valued added data servicies not another bank trying to sell me something inportant to them but not me..............
