The FinTech Developer Study 2014

Software developers are playing a vital role in reengineering, disrupting and reinventing the financial services industry.

I heard someone ask at Finextra's Future Money event recently; "When are banks going to start realising they are technology companies with a banking strategy?".

I've been working with developers for a number of years now and they are a particular personality type that are quite simply being misunderstood.

For this reason Finextra Research is now undertaking the first Fintech Developer Study.

The aim is to better understand how developers choose and use software tools and platforms, and how well they are being served by technology vendors. What makes them more productive? What frustrates them?

I’d like to hear the views and opinions of developers working in banks, financial institutions and financial services vendors and startups, as well as those that work with developers via R&D, Product delivery & through clients.

Four elements will shape the study;

1. Survey: an industry-wide survey of individual developers
2. Review: a comparison of developer programmes and services available today
3. Opinion: expert stakeholder and developer viewpoints
4. Analysis: a commentary on best practices today and future considerations

Every developer completing the survey will be given a copy of the Fintech Developer Study 2014. The study will also be distributed to banks, financial institutions, software and technology vendors, in order that they can improve their products and services offered to developers operating in the financial services sector.
