Inspired by the human brain, these models are built with interconnected "neurons" that work together to analyse data and make decisions. Think of them as super-powered pattern recognisers. When one area of the fraudster's behaviour changes, the model can still identify anomalous behaviour and alert the fraud team, resulting in the payment being stopped and reducing fraud losses.
Scoring Systems: Simplifying Decisions
Imagine a system that assigns a score to a transaction, indicating the likelihood of fraud. A high score might trigger a closer look, while a low score allows the transaction to proceed smoothly. By analysing past data and identifying patterns, machine learning can create highly accurate scoring systems, making fraud detection faster and more efficient.
These fraud detection systems are like multi-talented assistants. They not only fight fraud, but we can also use them for other purposes. Fraud scoring systems process vast amounts of data but using them just for fraud detection is not the most effective use of the available technology.
