From today, Banco Sabadell will be offering its customers the option to use Apple Pay, which is transforming mobile payments with an easy, secure and private payment method. Sabadell has implemented the innovative mobile payments system, which combines speed and convenience along with guarantees of security and privacy.

The service is already available for Mastercard and Visa cards issued by Banco Sabadell.

According to the head of Financial Services at Banco Sabadell, Anna Puigoriol, “offering Apple Pay to our customers strengthens Banco Sabadell’s commitment to continuous innovation, specifically in terms of mobile payments in this case. The implementation of Apple Pay allows us to continue offering high quality products and services, while also guaranteeing the maximum level of security, as well as an excellent purchasing experience”.

Puigoriol notes that “Banco Sabadell has always been a trailblazer in the world of payment methods, which are constantly being developed and improved. If this is to continue being the case, we need to strengthen our mobile services.”.

It is important to highlight that Banco Sabadell currently has around 6 million cards in the market, according to May 2018 figures, with an 11% year-on-year growth in turnover.

Security and privacy are at the core of Apple Pay. When consumers use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are never stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, which is then encrypted and safely stored in the secure element on the device. Each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code. Apple Pay is easy to set up and allows users to continue using all of the services and benefits that come with Banco Sabadell cards. The system is compatible with iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later, as well as with Apple Watch.

Apple Pay can also be used for online purchases through apps and on websites. In these cases, the process is simple - users just need to use the Touch ID sensor, thus eliminating the need to fill out forms to enter card or billing details.

For online purchases, Apple Pay can be used with iPhone 6 and later, iPhone SE, iPad Pro, iPad (5th generation), iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 and later versions. Apple Pay can also be used with Safari on any Mac introduced in or after 2012, or by downloading and running macOS Sierra and confirming the payment with an iPhone 6 or later, with Apple Watch, or with the Touch ID sensor available in the new MacBook Pro.
