SumUp’s proprietary technology is the first mobile point-of-sale system in the world to cover the whole payments process including the Chip & PIN card terminal, Android and iOS mobile apps, a payment platform with fully certified EMV processing technology, as well as risk and anti-fraud solutions. And now it is the first truly open mPOS platform.

By connecting to the SumUp open platform, partners will be able to offer a seamlessly integrated payment acceptance experience in their native or mobile browser-based apps, without having to go through the trouble of certifying with card schemes or acquirers and maintaining PCI compliance. Integration takes just a few hours for the partner app and is as easy as accepting card payments through the SumUp App. All solutions support the acceptance of Visa, VPay, MasterCard, Maestro and American Express, debit cards from local card schemes, as well as Bitcoins. On top of that, any future payment methods SumUp chooses to integrate will be supported automatically.

With the launch of its open platform SumUp responds to an increasing market demand from three main industries. First, from ecommerce shops that are opening retails stores and want to use a card acceptance solution that is fully integrated into their shop system; second, from tablet-based cash register providers that cater for various industries requiring card payment processing and third, from companies employing mobile workforces using proprietary applications connected to inventory and shipping management.

Daniel Klein, CEO of SumUp: “The launch of our open payments platform represents a major milestone for us. Our mission is nothing less than to empower the world to accept card payments. We have now taken a huge step towards this mission by opening our end-to-end payment platform to any third party that is seeking to connect their app to the most powerful payment platform and card terminals in the world.“

SumUp recently made its payments platform available to a number of partners, including leading European cash register providers Gastrofix, 9Cookies and roc.Kasse who have started offering card payments as part of their solutions thanks to the easy way of integrating with SumUp. Recently, other large players of various industries such as mytaxi [and ] have started to use SumUp’s open platform to build custom solutions for equipping their agents with card acceptance capabilities.

Dirk Owerfeldt, founder of Gastrofix: “We offer our merchants a state of the art POS / cash register solution. Our merchant base includes some of the most renowned restaurants around Germany for which the POS system is the heart of their operation. We are working exclusively with the SumUp solution and are very impressed with the reliability of their infrastructure and the quality of their service and so are our merchants. Based on the success with our current integration and the positive feedback we received from merchants, we absolutely welcome SumUp’s decision to open their platform to the general public.“
