FleetBoston Financial is to implement Viewpointe's cheque image archiving technology to electronically store and access cheques and financial documents.
FleetBoston says it will use the archive to provide customers with instant access to cheque information, through existing channels and new products, and reduce cheque processing costs.
Mary Ellen Baker, managing director, consumer technology and operations, FleetBoston Financial, adds: "With imaging capability, Fleet will be able to more quickly and efficiently address customers' cheque related questions through any of our customer touch points - over the telephone, in the branch or though our on-line banking service HomeLink."
Viewpointe adds that the bank will be positioned to benefit from participating in its image exchange programme, an initiative that seeks to eliminate costs and inefficiencies associated with the transportation and duplicate processing of paper-based payments.
