MasterCard has unveiled a new point-of-sale service for reloading pre-paid cards at merchant locations.
The card scheme has completed its first transaction over the rePower Load Network under an initiative with pre-paid service provider InComm.
Ron Hynes, vice president, Americas prepaid product development, MasterCard coments: "We have minimised the work required for merchants to offer MasterCard rePower at the point of sale, eliminated financial hurdles for financial institutions who want to make this available to cardholders, and simplified the cardholder experience."
The first transaction was completed at a Village Pantry store in Indiana. InComm and MasterCard were joined in the initiative by pre-paid processor Galileo Processing. BankFirst acted as the acquiring financial institution.
InComm says it will begin offering the service to the 145,000 stores that comprise its retail distribution network in the US.
