Last month telco-owned UK mobile commerce joint venture Weve confirmed that Sear was jumping ship after accepting a new job.

Joining in August, he will be based at Skrill's London headquarters, overseeing all commercial operations across the group, comprising Skrill, paysafecard and payolution.

Founded in 2001, Skrill employs 700 people and is one of Europe's largest online payment systems and among the world's biggest independent digital wallet providers, with over 36 million account holders.

Last summer, private equity firm CVC Capital Partners paid Investcorp around EUR600 million for a majority stake in the group.

Says Sear, who has also worked for Travelex and VocaLink: "I am looking forward to working with the Skrill Group management to deliver growth and value to the organisation, and create new opportunities for businesses and individuals in the ever-evolving payments sector."
