CUA customers with handsets running the latest version of Google's Android operating system can download the app, link their Visa debit card and make payments of up to A$100 with a tap of their handsets.

The credit union is confident that its new service will prove a hit, citing a survey it has commissioned of 1215 Aussies which shows that around half are very likely or somewhat likely to use it when it became available.

In the longer term, 60% expect to be using tap and pay devices in the next five years and 80% in the next decade.

Chris Whitehead, CEO, CUA, says: "Unlike other mobile apps in the market, the CUA technology requires no tag or sticker to be attached to your mobile phone - you simply download the CUA redi2Pay app and off you go."
