Mike Harris and Tom Ilube, part of the founding team of UK Internet bank Egg, have set up a new venture for consumers to monitor and manage their personal information online.

Harris, founding chief executive of Egg, is executive chairman of the new company, called Garlik.

Ilube, who was CIO at Egg, is chief executive officer of the venture, while Gary Wigglesworth, founding director of Egg, is chief operating officer.

Nigel Shadbolt, a professor in the department of electronics and computer science at Southampton University and an expert in knowledge management and artificial intelligence, is chief technology officer.

The new service uses semantic Web technologies to allow users to find, manage, correct, remove or promote details about themselves online.

The company is backed by investment from 3i and Doughty Hanson Technology Ventures and will launch a pilot programme at the end of May.
