Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE:DBD) is keeping true to its "We won't rest" brand promise. The company's latest cash dispenser takes its Opteva(R) family of automated teller machines (ATMs) one step further by offering a smaller footprint, improved serviceability and added functionalities.

The terminal will be presented for public display for the first time during BAI's 2005 Retail Delivery Conference and Expo from Nov. 15 to 17 at the Orlando Convention Center.

The new Opteva 562 was designed for exterior through-the-wall and vestibule walk-up applications. The re-engineered cash dispenser reflects several technological advancements. Most notable is the terminal's reduced size, making it the industry's most compact through-the-wall cash dispenser in terms of footprint and service area.

A redesigned, recessed fascia makes the Opteva 562 more weather-tolerant and provides for a simpler replacement process. The new fascia protects the terminal from extreme weather conditions such as hail, snow and significant temperature fluctuations, and it allows the screen to be easily viewed, even in intense sunlight. The terminal's fascia wall trim kit, which comes standard, enables financial institutions to fit the ATM to wall openings of many sizes, eliminating the need for costly renovation projects when replacing legacy equipment with new terminals.

Danny O'Brien, Diebold's vice president of global product development and engineering, said the enhanced cash dispenser demonstrates Diebold's commitment to inventing the industry's best ATMs.

"The Opteva 562 truly is an intelligent evolution, and it demonstrates Diebold's technological leadership in cash dispensing," O'Brien said. "We are constantly looking for ways to take our products to the next level. We are dedicated to continuous quality improvement, and we take advantage of every opportunity to offer our customers even better products. We've done just that with the Opteva 562."

Like other terminals in the Opteva family, the Opteva 562 is Triple DES and EMV compliant and meets all global accessibility standards. Able to accommodate walk-up consumers as well as those in wheelchairs, the new cash dispenser enables consumers to conduct cash withdrawals, funds transfers, electronic payments and balance inquiries. It also includes an optional two- color statement printer, which provides convenient access to bank statements, loan applications and other financial forms and documents, at the ATM. Statement printing is a popular ATM feature, especially in the international marketplace.

Diebold's Opteva family is the company's global self-service product platform. Introduced in 2003 after extensive research and interaction with customers, the Opteva family has been embraced by financial institutions around the world. All Opteva ATMs feature an intuitive, consistent consumer interface and more than a dozen security features. Opteva also includes the industry's exclusive use of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface, offering more power and simpler upgrades. All Opteva terminals come standard with Diebold's Agilis(R) terminal software, which interfaces with a variety of multivendor products to decrease the need for backend support while protecting investments in legacy systems.
