Royal Bank of Scotland protects online brands with NetNames

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has contracted with domain name specialist NetNames for the protection and management of its 1000+ registered domain names.

RBS' portfolio of over 1000 domain names includes online brands NatWest, Direct Line Finance, Lombard Direct, Tesco Finance and Virgin Direct Personal Finance. The bank will consolidate and safeguard all of its domain names under NetNames Platinum Service, which allows RBS to outsource the registration, renewal and payment process, as well as safeguard its online intellectual property.

The domain name portfolio will be monitored using NetNames' proprietary Web-based Portfolio Manager solution, which will enable RBS to view its entire domain name portfolio in one place.

Julie Shelvey, trade mark adviser at RBS, says: "RBS Group will now be able to ensure that crucial renewals are not missed and have the ability to quickly identify potential infringements to our valuable online brands."

NetNames says over 40 financial institutions, including Egg and Scottish Widows, currently use its Platinum Service to manage domain names and protect online brands.
