Payments UK, the payment industry’s new representative body is pleased to announce that Yorkshire Building Society has joined as a new member, with Earthport to follow shortly.

Volante Technologies has also joined as an associate member. As a result, Payments UK will have 38 full members and 23 associate members.

Launched on 29 June 2015, Payments UK is designed to serve the growing number of players in the payments industry who offer, or who wish to develop, a proposition for their customers. In addition to these changes, American Express, BNY Mellon, Metro, PayPal, Tesco Bank and Virgin Money have all joined the Payments UK board.

Maurice Cleaves, Chief Executive of Payments UK said:
“We’re delighted that Yorkshire Building Society, Earthport and Volante Technologies have chosen to join us at what is a very exciting time in the payments industry. The number of businesses looking to provide payment services to customers is growing and Payments UK is uniquely placed to bring all these players together to tackle some of the exciting challenges facing the industry.

“All the payment innovations that have been delivered over the past decade were made possible through close cooperation of industry players, and we look forward to building upon this track record with our growing membership.”

Membership offers much more than representation: it can help payment providers navigate through changing customer requirements, new and emerging technology and industry standards, and the steady stream of domestic and European regulation which the industry needs respond to. It is also a trade association with a difference in that it has a delivery capability, and so it is set up to build on the industry’s track record of delivering major new innovations for customers such as Paym, the Current Account Switch Service and the Faster Payments Service. Ensuring the UK continues to deliver world class payments is a key objective for the industry so its members have the opportunity to input into this work and influence the outcomes.

Members of Payments UK set the agenda for all of the work that is carried out, through the accountability of the Board to the membership. Associate members gain access to the expertise of Payments UK in Europe, innovation, customer trends and regulation through regular events, publications, updates and alerts.
