Peter's lo-fi ramblings

Hosting customers willing to stump up cash to be greener

A survey by hosting company Rackspace shows that 62 percent of respondents are concerned and are either acting already or looking at ways of reducing the impact they have on the environment. The rest presumably don't care. Shame on them.

Just over half are willing to pay 5 to 10 percent extra for a "green" option and around the same are willing to settle for 5 to 10 percent less server performance in return for lower carbon emissions.

Fortunately new servers tend to be faster and more energy efficient anyway, so being green and speedy shouldn't be an issue.

Interestingly, 30 percent of respondents think green vendors will be a central part of their business strategy in five years.
