ANZ appoints McDonald's exec to oversee retail channel strategy

ANZ is looking to beef up its retail distribution strategy with the appointment of long-serving McDonald's exec Catriona Noble to oversee its customer-facing channels.

Noble will join ANZ from the fast food chain where she was chief restaurant officer for Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, responsible for more than 10,000 restaurants and 200,000 people. Previously, Noble served as chief executive officer of McDonald's Australia between 2010 and 2014.

At ANZ, she will be responsible for retail channel distribution strategy across the bank's 800 branches and its mobile sales force. She will be charged with growing ANZ's relationships with its five million customers and attracting new consumers to the brand.

Commenting on the appointment, ANZ chief Mark Whelan says: “This is not a business as usual appointment. Catriona’s energy, her people skills and retail experience will bring a strong focus to improving the way we serve our customers across our retail network."

This should be interesting to watch. Normally, people from other industries are challenged when they enter the banking business. I wish her much success!

Compliance issues ALWAYS kill the outsider.  The outsider underestimates how compliance regulations affect the running of a bank.
