FNB faces Twitter backlash after joke bombs

First National Bank's Twitter guy has spent the day issuing grovelling apologies after a bomb-related joke blew up in his face.

This morning 'FNB Guy' (@Rbjacobs), the bank's main point of contact for customers on Twitter, was asked about the whereabouts of 'Steve', a character from a radio campaign.

FNB Guy responded with a 'joke': "He's some where in Afghanistan, putting a bomb under a wheelchair and telling the cripple to run for it!"


The inevitable backlash was soon in full swing and FNB deleted the tweet, apologised and insisted that the comment "conflicts with our corporate values".

Meanwhile, FNB Guy has also been busily firefighting, tweeting hundreds of apologies. With many calling for him to be sacked, he seems to be preparing for the worst:
