Google underwhelms with new Wallet release

Google has rolled out an update to its mobile wallet, with improvements to the user interface, application stability, and battery life, but no sign yet of the major upgrade promised in October last year.

The latest version of the app includes support for Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express cards, with an eye-catching option to set a default or switch to a different card. Simpler navigation buttons make it easier for users to explore their transaction history and loyalty offers.

Whether this is the major upgrade to the Wallet that Google was promising last October is debateable. At the time, the Internet was abuzz with news that Google was about to release a companion physical card to match the virtual MasterCard on the mobile screen, as well as add support for P2P payments, transit ticketing and account deposits and withdrawals.
