Swift raises ambitions for Sibos 2006

Financial messaging network Swift has selected 'Raising ambitions' as the theme for this year's annual Sibos conference, which takes place in Sydney, Australia from 9-13 October.

A record 6500 participants attended Sibos 2005 in Copenhagen, more than double the numbers from a decade earlier when the event was last held in Denmark. During the same time frame, the number of exhibiting companies doubled to 236 and the size of the exhibition floor space also more than doubled.

It's a far cry from the first Swift International Banking and Operations Seminar, which attracted 300 correspondent bankers to Brussels in 1978. Since then, Sibos venues have rotated around the world between Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region, and the conference itself has evolved to address broader strategic concerns.

Raising ambitions, the theme for Sibos 2006, is intended to set a new agenda for the rest of the decade, with a call for the industry to meet head on emerging challenges from the corporate space, globalisation and regulatory bodies.

The Sibos programme is now live and available for viewing at Sibos 2006. Registration for the event will open in March.

As in previous years, Finextra will once again be reporting direct from Sibos, providing an online medium for relaying real-time news and views direct from the conference and exhibition floor to delegates at the show and to a broader audience worldwide.
