Four computers containing confidential customer information about thousands of Wells Fargo customers have been stolen from the Atlanta offices of document processing vendor Regulus Integrated Solutions.
According to an Associated Press report, computers containing names, addresses and social security and account numbers for thousands of Wells Fargo's mortgage and student-loan customers were stolen last month.
The report says no passwords or PIN numbers were in the database.
The bank notified customers of the theft by post last week and urged them to take precautions such as filing a security alert with a credit bureau.
Wells Fargo spokeswoman Janis Smith says there is no indication that the stolen information has been misused.
Last November a California man was arrested in connection with the theft of a computer containing confidential customer data for some of Wells Fargo personal line and loan customers.
Wells Fargo had previously offered a reward of $100,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the burglar, who stole the computer from the Concord office of an analysts hired by the bank.
